AR Murugadoss-directed Sarkar has ended its 10-day first week collection on a high note. The Sun Pictures-produced flick, which has Vijay, Keerthy Suresh and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the leads, has earned big money at the domestic as well as overseas box office.
The big-budget movie was released on November 6 to a massive hype. Sarkar had seen the light of the day in about 3,400 screens and registered an earth-shattering opening. Despite getting mixed reviews, the Vijay-starrer was expected to do well in the first few days as the tickets for the first three days were sold in advance.
But the surprising part is that Sarkar managed to do for the first six days without witnessing huge drop in its collection. Interestingly, the post-first weekend scenario is also not bad as the AR Murugadoss' action thriller has ended its extended 10-day first week by earning Rs 214.3 crore at the worldwide box office.
In South India alone, Sarkar has grossed Rs 145.8 crore and about Rs 2.5 crore from rest of India to take its 10-day domestic total to Rs 148.3 crore.
The Vijay-starrer has done extremely well in the overseas centres like in the US, Malaysia and in the UK. From the international box office, the action thriller has raked in about Rs 66 crore.
With the movie entering the second weekend, all eyes will be on whether it breaches Rs 250-crore mark and beats the record of Mersal, which had earned around Rs 254 crore in its lifetime.
Sarkar tells the story of an NRI, who comes to Chennai to cast his vote. But he gets the biggest shock of his life upon realising that someone had cast his vote on behalf of him. What follows next is his battle against the corrupt politicians.
