'Sardar Gabbar Singh' (Sardaar) 3 day box office collection: PK-starrer fails to cross Rs. 100-crore mark in weekend

Pawan Kalyan's "Sardar Gabbar Singh" (Sardaar/SGS) got a record-breaking opening, but could not show growth over the weekend. Its collection failed to cross Rs. 100-crore mark at worldwide box office over the weekend.

The huge success of "Gabbar Singh" had created a lot of curiosity around its sequel "Sardar Gabbar Singh." The promos of the second instalment had drawn a lot of attention to the film. In a bid to cash in on the Pawan mania, the makers had made grand arrangements for its release and shelled out hefty sums for its promotions.

The hype helped it register good advance booking for the opening day.

"Sardar Gabbar Singh" premiered on 300 screens in North America Thursday night, and collected $615,853 at the U.S. box office. It shattered the record of "Srimantudu" and became the Telugu film with the second-largest opening in the U.S. after "Bahubali."

The makers organised benefit shows at several locations across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana (AP/T) and Karnataka in the early hours of Friday. "Sardar Gabbar Singh" registered 100 percent occupancy everywhere in these shows. The movie did well in regular shows of the opening day as well.

"Sardar Gabbar Singh" collected Rs. 48 crore gross at the worldwide box office on the first day. making it the biggest opener for Pawan Kalyan, beating the record of "Attarintiki Daredi." The movie also smashed the opening-day record of "Srimanthudu" and turned the biggest Tollywood opener of all time after "Bahubali."

The Pawan Kalyan and Kajal Aggarwal-starrer was expected to continue its rocking run Saturday and Sunday, and gross over Rs. 100 crore at the worldwide box office in its first weekend. However, the mixed word-of-mouth took a toll on its business over the weekend, taking down its collection by over 70 percent Saturday. The film failed to show a big leap Sunday as well.

As per the early estimates, "Sardar Gabbar Singh" has collected approximately Rs. 46 crore gross at the AP/T box office in the first weekend. The movie is estimated to have earned a share of Rs. 30.61 crore. The AP/T distributors had acquired its theatrical rights for a record Rs. 61 crore, and the film has reportedly been successful in recovering 50 percent of their investments so far.

The Bobby-directed film has done average business in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and key international markets. It was dubbed and released in Hindi with the same name, and but that version has bombed in the North India. The film is estimated to have grossed approximately Rs. 35 crore in areas other than the two Telugu states.

"Sardar Gabbar Singh" is estimated to have collected approximately Rs. 69 crore at the worldwide box office in the first weekend. Its three-day global distributors' share stands at around Rs. 43 crore.
