West Bengal Transport & Sports Minister Madan Mitra, who was jailed in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam, resigned from Mamata Banerjee's cabinet on Wednesday.
The resignation comes almost a year after his arrest. Though he was arrested in December last year, Mitra was continuing in his post, reports said.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had refused to accept his resignation in 2014, accepted his resignation on Wednesday.
The move comes after the Trinamool Congress leader's lawyer failed to convince the court that he was not an influential person, reported The Economic Times.
