Rohit Shetty's "Dilwale" and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani" are set to have a box office clash, with both films releasing on the same date (18 December).
While it is being speculated that the earnings of both the films will be affected by the clash, "Dilwale" actor Shah Rukh Khan has said both films will do well owing to the festive season.
Priyanka Chopra, who plays a central character in "Bajirao Mastani", had earlier said in a Twitter conversation with her fans that the clash is "unfortunate".
While many have expressed their opinion on the clash, Bhansali has been mum on it. However, the producer-director recently opened up on the issue during an interview with Hindustan Times.
"SRK's next film (a Rohit Shetty directorial) is different, and so is mine. They should both do well in today's times, when there are so many screens. Why are we making an election campaign with these films, wondering which party will win? This isn't politics, or a sport. SRK is a huge star, a great person and a wonderful friend," said Bhansali.
When asked if the clash would affect his personal relationship with SRK, Bhansali told the daily: "I talk to Shah Rukh as well as Salman Khan. I met SRK the other day at Amitji's (Amitabh Bachchan) party, and we hugged and chatted. Of all the actors that I have worked with, I have met Shah Rukh the most. I am not here to be enemies with anyone. I have great respect for him. I don't have reasons to spoil relationships with people. I enjoy my conversations with him. I am very fond of him."
"Bajirao Mastani" is a period drama based on the love story of warrior Peshwa Baji Rao, (played by Ranveer Singh) and his second wife Mastani (played by Deepika Padukone). Priyanka is essaying the role of Bajirao's first wife, Kashibai.
On the other hand, "Dilwale", featuring Shah Rukh, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, has been creating tremendous buzz as it brings Bollywood's iconic couple SRK and Kajol back on screen after a gap of five years.
