Sanjay Dutt was released from Yerwada jail Thursday morning (Feb.25), after having served a 40-month sentence. The 56-year-old was imprisoned after he was convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case for illegal possession of arms.
Sanjay's family and friends, including filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, were present outside the jail to receive him.
Soon after the actor left the jail, he flew to Mumbai in a chartered plane. According to reports, Sanjay will first visit Mumbai's famous Siddhivinayak temple to offer prayers and then his mother Nargis Dutt's grave in Marine Lines before heading home in Pali Hill.
While millions of fans of the "Munnabhai MBBS" actor are celebrating his release, Bollywood celebs too have wished Sanjay a peaceful life ahead.
"People have always written his obituary but he has bounced back. He has dazzled everyone with his work. This time too I am hopeful he will come out as a more stronger man," filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt told the PTI.
On Twitter, Rishi Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and others have congratulated the actor on his release.
