The Sanjay Dutt biopic has been on the anvil for quite some time now. While Ranbir Kapoor has long been confirmed as the lead, the makers are yet to finalise its leading lady. Apparently, Kangana Ranaut has shown interest in the project.
According to a Zoom TV report, the actress has been sending over sweets to director-producer Rajkumar Hirani's residence to gently remind him of how keen she is to be part of the biopic. Interestingly, a few months ago, she was spotted leaving Rajkumar's house with a bound script, which sparked rumours of her being considered for the role.
Deepika Padukone too was associated with the biopic, but only for a short while. It was widely reported that she had liked the script and would take a call once she's back from her New Year's break. But none of that happened and she left for Toronto (Canada) for Vin Diesel's "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage," earlier this month.
The project is an extremely emotional one and will concentrate on Sanjay's relationships. The much-written about affair with Madhuri Dixit isn't the focus, instead his equations with Manyata Dutt and ex-wife Richa Sharma will take centre stage.
Meanwhile, Ranbir, who is busy with Anurag Basu's "Jagga Jasoos," needs to undergo drastic physical transformation for the biopic. The actor told DNA that he would have to pile on kilos to look the part.
"When I do Raju Hirani's film on Sanjay Dutt, I will try to look like him. Unka jo body type thin tha, then thode mote ho gaye the, ek samay par. As an actor, it's my responsibility to make the audiences believe that it's not me on screen but the characters we play. So the physical transformation will be an important part of the film," he further elaborated.
