In the film industry, success is measured with the total collection a film makes and any under-performers are often declared 'flops' although success and failure are the two faces of the same coin. However, a critically acclaimed movie with a poor box office performance is an exception.
In 2016, Sandalwood has produced a couple of surprising hits and a few movies have failed to live up to the expectations. We bring to you the top five movies of 2016 that failed to win critical appreciation as well as commercial success.
Apoorva
Ravichandran's dream project remains the biggest flop of 2016. The Crazy Star's film failed on all counts. Be it the story or the songs, the Kannada movie failed to make a mark.
Nagarahavu
This film was billed as the 201st movie of late Vishnuvardhan. The Kannada movie had drawn the nation's attention by recreating the portions of the Kannada icon in the film, which starred Ramya in the female lead. But the story without any substance played a spoilsport. The big star cast too failed to save the movie.
Viraat
Darshan's bad run at box office continued with Viraat, which, again, was limited to just his hardcore fans. Apart from regular commercial elements, the film did not offer much to the regular audience. This affected the film's box office earnings badly.
Lakshmana
R Chandru's much-hyped Lakshmana turned out to be a dud. The film marked the debut of Anoop, the son of politician HM Revanna. The film also had Ravichandran in a key role. The movie was a remake of Telugu flick Athanokkade. Unfortunately, this flick could not create a buzz like the original.
Run Anthony
Raghu Shastri's Run Anthony had created a lot of pre-release buzzes. It was the second movie of late Dr Rajkumar's grandson Vinay. Even though the trailer was a hit online, the film failed to impress viewers.
