Samsung has launched yet another entry-level smartphone, dubbed Galaxy J3 Pro, for the Indian market. The device, which was announced nearly two months ago, is now available for purchase on Flipkart and the company's official online store with price tags of Rs. 7,990 and Rs. 8,490, respectively.
The Samsung Galaxy J3 Pro comes with a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED screen, an 8-megapixel rear camera with HD video recording and a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture. The variant, bound for the Indian market, is powered by a quad-core Spreadtrum processor clocking at 1.5GHz, unlike the Chinese variant with the Snapdragon 410 chip.
The new smartphone, which sports a metal-finished polycarbonate build, also has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot, which supports cards with up to 128GB storage capacity. The handset is available in three colour options including black, gold and white.
The Samsung Galaxy J3 Pro runs on a 2600 mAh battery, and comes pre-installed with the outdated Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system. The phone also lacks a fingerprint sensor, which is offered by many other devices within the same price range.
However, the phone is replete with all connectivity options, including NFC, 4G LTE, Bluetooth v4.1, Dual SIM expandability and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.
In addition, the Galaxy J3 Pro also comes with India-specific features like Ultra Data Saving (UDS) mode, which helps consumers save up to 50 percent on mobile data costs, and the S bike mode, which encourages responsible riding.
With a price tag below Rs. 10,000, the Galaxy J3 Pro has entered a highly competitive segment crowded by the likes of Xiaomi Redmi 4A, Lenovo K6 Power, Redmi Note 4 and Moto E3 Power.
Samsung is also expected to launch two more handsets, including Galaxy J7 (2017) and Galaxy J5 (2017), in India soon.
