Smartphone leader, Samsung has pulled wraps-off the company's biggest smartphone Galaxy W at Seoul, South Korea.
The new Galaxy W sports a monster 7.0-inch display with HD (1280x720p) resolution. The company has tried to optimize the phone for one-hand use by keeping the thickness to just 8.8 mm and it weighs just 245 g. It also flaunts a faux leather coating like we see in the 2013 flagship phablet Galaxy Note 3.
Under the hood, it packs 1.2GHz quad-core processor, Android v4.3 Jelly Bean OS, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB (expandable up to 64GB) and has incorporated a high-capacity 3,200 mAh battery to power the energy guzzling big-screen.
Other stipulated features include 8.0-megapixel primary camera, 2.0-megapixel camera on the front side and boasts of LTE-A network connectivity which can enable user to transfer data wirelessly with download speeds up to 1gbps and upload speed close to 500mbps.
To make optimum use of the full screen, the phone comes with value-added features such as split-screen (can perform multiple functions at single time), landscape mode, multi-window (can jump between the apps easily) and pop-up play.
Going by the specifications list, Galaxy W is not a flagship device, it houses pretty much same features seen inside the mid-range Mega series devices sans the screen size and CPU.
In April 2013, with the launch of Samsung's Mega series phablets (a hybrid of smartphone and tablet), company blurred the line between a tablet and phone, and now with the unveiling of Galaxy W, Samsung breached the mini-tablet size differentiation with a staggering 7.0-inch physique smartphone.
As of now, Samsung is said to release Galaxy W initially in the home market, South Korea with three color variants – White, Red and Black for 499,400 Won (around ₹28,800/$487), reported SamMobile, but there is no official word whether the giant smartphone gets launch in other global markets as such.
