Samsung has sold one million units of Tizen-powered smartphone Z1 since its debut in January this year.
Priced at Rs 4,990, Z1 is a budget smartphone, but what makes it unique is its home-made operating system.
"Our insights have shown that consumers hesitate to move beyond the familiar basic and simple interaction with their mobile devices," said Samsung India Vice-President Asim Warsi, "Keeping this in mind, Samsung Z1 features an easy to use UI that offers a smooth and fast experience to ensure a seamless migration to smartphones.
"Samsung Z1 combines a great feature set along with a rapidly growing app ecosystem to offer consumers a differentiated Smartphone experience. We are happy to see the response the device has received and will continue to grow the range for Tizen- powered smartphones," he added.
Built on Tizen platform that also powers products like Samsung televisions, cameras and wearable devices, Samsung Z1 boasts a 4-inch, 480x800 pixels, 233ppi display and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual core Speedtrum SC7727S processor, 768MB RAM and 4GB built-in storage with expandability support.
Z1 also features 'Ultra Power Saving Mode' to ensure users can enjoy an uninterrupted smartphone experience and stay connected, even at minimal battery levels.
The software and user interface of Tizen platform has been developed at Samsung's Bengaluru R&D lab, while the smartphones are manufactured in its Noida factory.
