Samsung launches special-edition diamond and gold encrusted Gear S2 smartwatch

Samsung, in collaboration with prominent jeweller de GRISOGONO, unveiled the new limited-edition luxury Gear S2 series.

The new Samsung Gear S2 designed by de GRISOGONO boasts 41 mm circular case encrusted with rose gold set with 56 white diamonds (around 1.2 carats) and black DLC (Diamond-like Carbon) coated stainless steel set with 71 black diamonds (around 1.8 carats).

The smartwatch has been designed in such a away that diamond-set gold bezel turns freely around the dial, allowing consumers to access the Gear S2's library of applications including notifications, activity logs and other features.

It sports a 1.2-inch circular super AMOLED screen with 360x360p resolution and comes packed with 4GB inbuilt storage, 512MB RAM and a 250mAh Li-ion battery, which can keep the watch running for two to three days under mixed usage.

"The combination of style and substance is inherent in every Samsung device," Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President (Global Marketing), Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics said in a statement.

"This dynamic partnership builds on this heritage by merging Samsung's barrier breaking technology with de GRISOGONO's signature style to create a smartwatch as unique as the wearer." Mr. Lee added.

The company has confirmed that new luxury Gear S2 variant will be first showcased at Baselworld 2016 (March 17-24) event at Messe Basel, Switzerland, and will be made available in Samsung exclusive stores and all de GRISOGONO jewellery showrooms this summer. The device's price details are yet to be revealed.
