Leading smartphone maker Samsung launched the much-awaited 2016 series Galaxy J7 and J5 mid-range smartphones in India on Monday.
Both the phones were originally unveiled in China way back in March, and now the devices have finally set foot in the country.
As the name suggests, Galaxy J7 (2016) is the high-end variant among the two. It sports a 5.5-inch HD super AMOLED screen with metal-frame around the edges to provide a sturdy structure to prevent being affected by accidental fall. Also, the use of high quality metal alloy make the mid-range device look premium.
Under the hood, it comes packed with 1.6GHz Samsung Exynos octa-core SoC (System-on-Chip), 2GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt memory and a 3300mAh battery, which can keep the device running for close to 354 hours under standby mode.
On the other hand, the Galaxy J5 (2016) features same design language with metal frame as the Galaxy J7 (2016), but comes with a smaller 5.2-inch HD super AMOLED screen.
It houses a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt memory and 3100mAh battery.
Both the new Galaxy J7 and J5 series phones houses same camera hardware. They feature 13MP primary camera with LED flash, autofocus, f/1.9 aperture and a 5MP snapper with f/1.9 aperture.
Both the new Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J5 come with S bike mode. For those unaware, S bike mode was first introduced in Galaxy J3 (2016), which was launched in March. This intuitive feature comes into play when a user is riding a two-wheeler. If someone calls the Samsung Galaxy J3 (also the J2, J5 and J7) owner, they will get an automatic reply saying the device user is on the road, and may be reachable later. If the caller wishes to convey some emergency news, they will be asked to press "1" to override the S bike mode.
Another notable thing about S bike mode is its safety feature, which tracks the motion of the smartphone and will lock the device's screen so the owner will be able to take the call only after the vehicle stops, Samsung claims.
"The Galaxy J Series has received a tremendous response from consumers. We are proud to share that owing to our consumer-centric approach and ability to bring valuable and meaningful innovations to the Indian consumers, J series has become India's largest selling series of smartphones. Given the tremendous success of the J Series, we are happy to announce the expansion of the portfolio with the addition of Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J5 2016 that will elevate consumer experience to the next level," Manu Sharma, Vice President, Mobile Business, Samsung India Electronics, said in a statement.
