Earlier this month, Samsung unveiled flagship phablet Galaxy Note7. Now, the South Korean technology major is ready to pull the wraps off the third generation smartwatch dubbed as the Gear S3 in Germany, just a day ahead of a global consumer electronics fair -- IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) 2016.
The company is hosting an event at Berlin's Tempodrom arena at 6:00 p.m. CET (21:30 p.m. IST) and has confirmed to webcast the Gear S3 unveiling event live online.
Samsung Gear S3: What we know so far
It is widely reported that Samsung's upcoming third generation smartwatch is expected to come in three variants — Gear S3 Classic, Gear S3 Explorer and Gear S3 Frontier.
All the three are expected to run Samsung's proprietary Tizen OS and boast Gear S2's popular feature rotating bezel for navigation and also come integrated with GPS, altimeter, barometer and speedometer. They are most likely to come with IP68 certification as well.
With IP (Ingress Protection) 68 certification, the device is guaranteed to survive five-feet underwater for close to 30 minutes.
Besides the three variants, Samsung is reportedly also planning to launch a limited edition variant in partnership with prominent Swiss jeweller, de GRISOGONO. Previously, both had launched a luxury diamond-studded Gear S2 gold model for $15,000 (£11,500) in March.
