Smartphone makers, be it Samsung Electronics or Apple Inc., seem to have the habit of pushing out flagship devices with just minor changes but this could backfire in the long run. Mobile phone users can't be fooled with silly feature upgrades anymore and Samsung needs to bring drastic change to its upcoming device, the Galaxy S6, to get back on track.
The South Korean electronics giant took its fans for granted after the stupendous success of its Galaxy SIII. The Galaxy S4 was not very different from the Galaxy SIII except for a few feature upgrades, and the Galaxy S5 was a damp squib.
Disappointment of Samsung fans was reflected in the company's earnings for the third quarter of 2014 with profits from its mobile division falling 73.9 percent to 1.75 trillion won ($1.6 billion). It was the company's worst performance since the second quarter of 2011, which should be a cause of worry for the officials.
Now, the big question is whether the upcoming Galaxy S6 will bring Samsung Electronics back on track or end up as a predictable device.
Looking back, it was the Galaxy SIII that brought fame to Samsung Electronics as a smartphone maker before two lull years ensued. Now, the Galaxy S6 is expected to put the South Korean technology giant back in the competition by introducing innovative and drastic changes.
It looks like the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be very different from its predecessors – at least if one is to go by reports that have appeared so far. Its codename is said to be Project Zero, which is very different from the ones used for its predecessors.
The South Korean company is mum on its upcoming smartphone but several reports have revealed its major features.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to have a 21MP main camera and 6MP front snapper, 4GB RAM, and a powerful 4000 mAh battery, according to a report by Christian Today. It is also reported that the device might sport a 5.5-inch screen size with a 1440 x 2560 quad HD resolution (554ppi) or a 3840x2160 display resolution, and a full metal body. It is expected to be powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 or Exynos 7420 processor, run on Google's latest software, Android 5.0 Lollipop, and have 32/64/128GB internal memory.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date:
Samsung is tight-lipped on the release date of its upcoming device, the Galaxy S6, but several reports have claimed that it could happen in the first quarter of 2015. Some reports claimed that the device could be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2015) event to be held from 2 to 5 March before launching a few weeks later.
