Samsung Electronics is yet to reveal the release date of its upcoming flagship smartphone dubbed as the Galaxy S6 but speculations are doing the rounds that it could make an early launch, and the reason is poor Galaxy S5 sales.
It was reported earlier that the South Korean electronics giant would unveil the Galaxy S6 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2015) in March as its predecessor will complete the one-year cycle by that time but latest reports suggest that it will be launched earlier than expected.
A report by Korean website Chosun Biz (via GforGames) has claimed, quoting analysts at Mirae Asset Securities (MAS), that the Galaxy S6, codenamed "Project Zero," will be announced at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2015 (CES 2015) in Las Vegas in January.
Indian import tracking website Zumba has also hinted at an early arrival of the Galaxy S6 by claiming on its page that the device with model number SM-G920F will be sent to India for research, development and evaluation.
Samsung is yet to confirm the release date of the Galaxy S6 but if reports of an early launch turn out to be true, it could be seen as a move to boost its business after poor sales of the Galaxy S5.
It may be recalled that the Galaxy S5 was released after months of speculations but it failed to live up to the expectations of its fans. Samsung's earnings in the third quarter of 2014 took a dip with profits from its mobile division falling 73.9 percent to 1.75 trillion won ($1.6 billion), which is the worst performance the company has faced since the second quarter of 2011. Release of Galaxy Note 4 helped recover its business to some extent but it still needs good sales from its upcoming flagship device to get back on track.
Samsung seems to be looking at the Galaxy S6 to revive its business and take on rivals like Apple Inc. and HTC in the smartphone market.
