Though Samsung Galaxy S4 made record sales since its launch in Q1 2013, it came short of market analysts' expectations. Now, Samsung, in its bid to come out stronger this year, is leaving no stone unturned to make the company's upcoming flagship phone the Galaxy S5 a big success.
According to reports, Samsung Galaxy S5 will boast industry's top-of-the-line features in terms of build quality, display resolutions, advanced CPU, improved security and a lot more, to stand apart from its rivals.
Here are the key features expected in Galaxy S5:
Display and Design:
Just a few days ago, Samsung Vice President and Head of Design Strategy, Dong-hoon Chang, in an informal chat with Korean media house inews24, reportedly confirmed that the company will use a new material for the new Galaxy phone, hinting Samsung fans can finally expect the Galaxy S5 handset to come with a premium metal case.
Besides the metallic shell, the Galaxy S5 is also said to flaunt a new body design with a little increase in its display footprint. It will boast a 5.25-inch QHD (aka 2K) 2560x1440p resolution display with a staggering pixel density of 560 ppi (pixels per inch).
Processor, RAM and Storage:
Samsung's archrival Apple has already taken the lead with respect to use of advanced chipset in the 2013 iPhone 5S. Now the South Korean firm is also certain to up the ante in the smartphone war by the introducing the new 64-bit architecture based Exynos 6 Octa-core processor, and pairing it with a superior 4GB RAM in the forthcoming Galaxy S5.
In terms of storage, one can expect the new Samsung smartphone to come with 32GB inbuilt memory having expandable options via microSD card.
Special Attributes:
Iris Scanner: In late 2013, Apple introduced iPhone 5S with fingerprint reader (Touch ID) for secured unlocking of the screen. This year, Samsung is going a notch up by introducing the more advanced and secured biometric security system - Iris scanner.
The system involves camera technology with subtle infrared illuminations to capture detailed nerve pattern on the iris. Using this data, digital impressions are created by mathematical and statistical algorithm so that an accurate profile is created. This biometric technology is nearly impossible to crack by an imposter, unlike finger print scanner which can be forged with a fake thumb print.
Head movement tracking feature: Last year, Samsung Galaxy S4 came preloaded with a host of gesture control features like smart scroll, smart pause, Air View & Air Gesture, S Voice Drive and now in 2014, Samsung plans to introduce a new feature which tracks users' head movement to browse web pages on the phone.
The handset's front camera divides the user's image into various sections, then observes the change in a particular section to carry out a specific function, reported SamMobile.
Mobile Operating Systems:
During the recently concluded global electronic trade fair, CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2014, Samsung introduced TabPRO and NotePRO tablets with KitKat OS, hence one can be certain that the upcoming Galaxy S5 will also ship with new Android OS out of the box.
Key features of the new Android v4.4 KitKat include smarter caller ID, more organized message grouping Hangouts (now all SMSs, audio and video MMS will now found under one roof), quick access to settings, Quickoffice word document app, wireless printing (select HP printers), Bluetooth MAP (Message Access Profile) and many more.
Apart from the new OS, Samsung is also reportedly refurbishing the custom UI TouchWiz to make it visually appealing to the eyes and simpler accessibility to apps.
Camera:
The fifth generation Galaxy S device is pegged to house a top-of-the-line 16.0-megapixel main camera, probably with ISOCELL technology, OIS (Optical image stabilization) and loss-less zoom feature.
Whereas on the front side, it is expected to pack a 2.0-megapixel camera with full HD video recording ability.
Launch details:
Samsung, Executive vice-president (Mobile Business), Lee Young Hee, while speaking to Bloomberg, said the company intends to launch the Galaxy S5 by the end of April this year.
"We've (Samsung) been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time," he said.
Hee also confirmed that the flagship Galaxy S5 will also be accompanied by Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch.
