Samsung Galaxy S5 Listed at Indian Online Store for ₹45,500 ($735): Report

Though Samsung will release their new flagship smartphone Galaxy S5 only next month (April), an Indian online retailer has listed the new device, apparently revealing the price.

Spice Group-owned online store Saholic has put up the Samsung Galaxy S5 (16GB) for sale with a price tag of ₹45,500 (around $735), almost ₹10,000-₹15,000 lesser than the price set by some European retailers.

The website also goes to claim that the Galaxy S5 will be delivered by 8 March, which is impossible, considering Samsung's comments that the new device will only hit the stores in 150 countries (India is also expected) on 11 April. 

However, on pressing the 'Buy Now' button, a small window pops out with a message "This item is out of stock", and asks for the email-id of the customer to get updates on the availability of the device.

The low pricing of Galaxy S5 by the Indian e-retailer has breathed new life to rumours of Samsung going soft on the pricing of the device, owing to stalling growth of premium phones' sales even in developed countries, and also due to the competition from cheap Chinese handsets, as reported by Bloomberg in February.

A sub-₹46,000 price-tag for Samsung Galaxy S5 seem apt for a price-sensitive market like India and it will help Samsung to compete with rivals like LG, who recently launched their new flagship model G2 LTE for ₹46,000.

The Galaxy S5 price revelation by Saholic has created frenzy on the internet but it is too soon to say if the Samsung device will have the same price tag, when it goes on sale next month, as online retailers are known to change prices at will to gain attention.

So till Samsung comes to the media and clears the air, things will remain as pure speculation only.
