As the second edition of Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2015 gets closer, many rumours are circulating on the Internet with conflicting details about features and price of the Galaxy Note 5.
We have sifted through numerous reports and come up with a comprehensive report containing details of price, release date and a list of probable key features of Galaxy Note 5. The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is expected to be unveiled next week at the event, along with the Galaxy Note 5.
Design and Display:
Early in the month, Twitter sensation, Evan Blass (@evleaks), posted pictures of the rumoured Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Going by the images, the new devices' design seems to be inspired from the company's 2015 marquee phones - the Galaxy S6 series. The metallic frame around corners and the display look top-notch.
It has been learnt that the display resolution of both the devices will be QHD (2560x1440p) just like the 5.1-inch Galaxy S6 series, but the screen will be 5.7-inch in size. It implies the pixel density of the Galaxy Note 5 will be 515 ppi (pixels per inch), whereas the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will have additional display area, as its screen will expand further to the edge on both sides, resulting in 534 ppi.
Processor, RAM, Storage:
As per the recently leaked AnTuTu performance mark sheet, the Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N9200) and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (SM-G928F) scored 69,702 and 68,345 points respectively, thanks to Samsung's powerful proprietary Exynos 7420 Octa-core SoC (System-on-Chip), the very same processor that made Galaxy S6 series a monster. It crushed tier-1 rivals Apple iPhone 6 series and HTC One M9.
The Exynos chipset is said to be backed by advanced 4GB LPDDR 4 series RAM.
As far as storage capacity is concerned, there are conflicting reports - one claiming there will no microSD card support in the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus as their design is borrowed from the metal-clad uni-body design language of the flagship smartphone Galaxy S6 (& S6 Edge). Another report claims the new phablets will have memory expandable options, just like their predecessors.
The latest report from China claims that Samsung is working on dual-SIM models with micro-SD card slot, which are likely to be retailed exclusively in emerging markets such as India and South East Asian countries.
Camera:
Like processor chip, Samsung has reportedly decided to incorporate the same camera features in the new phablets, like the ones seen in the Galaxy S6 series. They are expect to boast of a 16mp camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) on the back and a 5mp snapper on the front.
Mobile Operating System:
Since Google is expected to launch the new Android M in late September/early October, Samsung's new phones Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus are said to ship with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box.
Value added features expected in the Galaxy Note 5 and the S6 Edge Plus include advanced S-Pen stylus, finger-print sensor and reversible USB Type C port.
Release Date:
Soon after the unveiling at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2015 on 13 August, the South Korean company is reportedly planning to release the devices to global markets by 21 August.
Price:
According to Chinese website Sogi, Galaxy Note 5 is expected to be priced around TWD 23,000 ($725/€660/₹46,280), but there is no word on how much Galaxy S6 Edge Plus would cost.
