World smartphone leader Samsung is reportedly planning to release flagship phablet Galaxy Note 4 in India next month ahead of Diwali festive season.
Company's VP for mobile & IT, Asim Warsi, while hosting the Galaxy Alpha (price: ₹39,990) India launch event on Saturday, 27 September, has confirmed to The Economics Times that Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will hit stores in a couple of weeks' time.
On further querying on pricing details of the device, he replied that the Galaxy Note 4's rate would be in line with global markets and going by unlocked model, which have already gone up for pre-orders in select regions of Asia (China and South Korea), it is likely to be priced at ₹55,000.
The South Korean company's move to launch Galaxy Note 4 early in some markets is attributed to get head-start against archrival Apple, who despite having received overwhelming response on new iPhone 6 series smartphones (in North America, Europe and other select developed markets), has deferred device launches in two of the world's biggest smartphone markets - China and India.
The delay in China is reported to be related to regulatory approvals and as far as Apple iPhone 6 India release date is concerned, it has been pushed to November. Citing official Apple smartphone retailers, The Indian Xpress has claimed that the new iPhone 6 and its Plus variant are not likely to hit store shelves until mid-November.
Apple changed iPhone 6 availability details twice after announcing 26 September as the much-hyped smartphone's release date for India and in just a few hours, it again changed the date to 17 October.
But again, the following week, the company (on 11 September) pulled down the release date details from its official home page, leaving many wondering whether there will be a delay in launching the smartphone in India.
And adding more woes to the already delayed launch, Apple is grappling to save face with the 'Bendgate' fiasco, where some iPhone 6 plus (only handful models, as claimed by Apple) have been seen bending beyond normal degrees, when kept in pockets and also the bug-ridden iOS 8 and the following half-baked v8.0.1 version has further dented the American company's image.
By releasing Note 4 and Galaxy Alpha early in the market, Samsung will be able to cash in on Diwali festival in India and take formidable lead in niche premium segment.
