Leading smartphone-maker Samsung has launched Galaxy J2 Core, the company's first ever Android Go (Oreo) OS-powered phone in India.
The new Galaxy J2 Core is an entry-level phone. It comes with 5.0-inch qHD screen, Android Oreo (Go edition) OS, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, Samsung's proprietary Exynos quad-core processor and a 2,600 battery, which is capable of playing videos on YouTube Go for almost 11 hours.
As mentioned in the headline, the highlight of the Samsung phone is the Android Go edition operating system. For the uninitiated, Google's Android mobile OS development team has optimised the Android Go specifically for budget smartphones with bare minimum hardware having 1 GB RAM (or less). It is very light in size but does not compromise in terms of performance.
It can also be noted that the Android team has improvised the preinstalled Google apps (for example Files Go, Google Go, Maps Go and YouTube Go, among others) to take up 50 percent less space, making sure that low-end smartphone users get more space for music, apps, photos and other activities.
Furthermore, Samsung has incorporated its own proprietary features in the Galaxy J2 Core. It comes with 'Make for India' feature that allows consumers to not only install apps but also direct social media content to an external memory card,.
It comes very handy as most of the forwarded multimedia content on WhatsApp makes the device's internal storage fill up in no time. Furthermore, Samsung's Smart Manager delivers automatic RAM management that ensures the device has sufficient free memory and remains fast and optimized.
The Galaxy J2 Core comes in three colours -- blue, black and gold. It is available at brick-and-mortar retail chains across India and also on Samsung e-store (online) for Rs 6,190.
Samsung Galaxy J2 Core vs. competition
The Galaxy J2 Core will be up against the popular Xiaomi Redmi 5 series, Infinix Hot 6 Pro, Tecno Camon iAce and Motorola Moto E5 series, among others.
