Samsung Galaxy Grand vs. Karbonn Titanium S5: Battle Between Indian Smartphones Against MNC Brands Continues

Samsung's Galaxy Grand, a less expensive alternative to Galaxy Note series phablets in India, created a niche market of its own in Indian smartphone market.

Smartphone makers in the country soon followed suit and brought out several low-cost 5-inch smartphones, giving stiff competition to expensive MNC-made handsets.

In the last two months, Indian manufacturers Micromax, Karbonn, Lava, and its subsidiary brand Xolo have churned out low-cost smartphones in varied sizes. But 5-inch big screen smartphone/phablets seem to be the current market trend.

Bangalore-based Karbonn launched the quad-core 'Titanium S5' a couple of weeks ago into the burgeoning smartphone market.

But, can low-cost Indian made smartphones steer consumers away from MNC brands and draw them in to its fold?

As a 5.0-inch smartphone, Samsung Galaxy Grand sports a relatively lower 480x800p display resolution with pixel density of around 187 ppi (pixels per inch), whereas Titanium S5 sports a pretty decent qHD display of 960x540p resolutions.

Processor:

Galaxy Grand packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor while Titanium S5 packs an efficient and powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset with 1.2GHz CPU speed.

Using a quad-core processor, Titanium S5 can multi-task simultaneously while using less energy and thereby increasing battery life span.

Camera:

Galaxy Grand and Karbonn Titanium S5 each pack an 8.0-megapixel main camera with flash support and a 2.0-megapixel front camera.

Mobile Operating System:

Again Galaxy Grand and Karbonn Titanium S5 stand even in this department as they both run on the same Android mobile operating system version Jelly Bean.

Both smartphones have dual-SIM facility and have minor differences in terms of internal hardware components such as Memory, RAM, and battery capacity.

Price:

This aspect can't be ignored in a price-sensitive market like India where more than 100 companies are jostling for market share. Karbonn Titanium S5 costs only ₹11,990, which is almost ₹9,000 less than Samsung's Galaxy Grand.

With a sub ₹12,000 price, Titanium S5 makes for a very tempting handset to buy.
