Samsung Inc, in a tactical move to turn the heat on Indian smartphone makers, released a low-cost quad-core smartphone called Galaxy Grand Quattro in the sub-continent last week, further intensifying the competition in the lucrative cheap high-end device market ruled by local players.
The new Galaxy Grand Quattro is expected to take on Micromax's A116 canvas HD which is currently the top selling smartphone in the country. The new Galaxy Grand Quattro sports a 4.7-inch TFT WVGA display with 480x800p resolution with close to 199 pixels per inch picture pixel density. Micromax Canvas HD A116 sports a little bigger 5.0-inch LCD IPS (In-Plane Switching) display with an impressive 720px1280p resolution and with pixel density of 294 pixels per inch.
Processor:
In terms of power, A116 Canvas HD and Galaxy Grand Quattro share equal points as they both pack 1.2GHz quad-core processors. But it is to be noted that the Micromax smartphone houses a MediaTek MTK-6589 chipset, whereas the Samsung device features a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

In this aspect, A116 Canvas HD holds the upper hand as it packs an impressive 8.0-megapixel rear-side camera with flash support and a 2.0-megapixel front-facing camera. On the other hand, Galaxy Grand Quattro sports a 5.0-megapixel main camera with auto-focus and flash support and a 0.3-megapixel VGA camera on the front side.
Mobile Operating System:
In terms of mobile OS, they both stand even in this department as both the Galaxy Grand Quattro and A116 Canvas HD run on same Android mobile OS Jelly Bean. It is to be noted that the Samsung smartphone boasts of a custom-made user-friendly UI on top of Android OS.
According to various reports, Galaxy Grand Quattro will receive Android v4.2 Jelly Bean update in the coming months.

According to latest report, Micromax A116 Canvas HD price is hovering around ₹14,499, whereas Samsung's new smartphone is priced a little over ₹16,500. (Prices vary based on the markets).
