The much-hyped Samsung's 2014 marquee smartphone, the Galaxy S5 has been unveiled at the company 'Unpacked 2014 Episode 1' event at Barcelona.
"With the Galaxy S5, Samsung is going back to basics to focus on delivering the capabilities that matter most to our consumers," said JK Shin, President and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung.
"Consumers are looking for mobile tools that inspire and support them as they improve their everyday lives. The Galaxy S5 represents an iconic design with essential and useful features to focus on delivering the ultimate smartphone on the market today through people inspired innovation." He added.
Samsung Galaxy S5 is a modest upgrade to its predecessor. It sports a plastic based body with a standard full HD (1920x1080p) Super AMOLED display. Many fans would have felt let down to hear this as many reports had claimed that the device would boast 2K (2560x1440p) resolution screen with a metal case. However, they would have some solace to know that the smartphone features a finger print sensor for secured unlocking and also boasts of water and dust resistant IP67 certifications.
Under the hood, it packs a 2.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM, 16GB/32GB inbuilt memory (up to 64GB), 16-megapixel main camera (with UHD video recording, HDR, super-fast auto-focus features and more), a 2.1-megapixel camera, 2800 mAh battery with Ultra Power Saving Mode which can keep the phone running for 340 hours under standby mode. On connectivity front, it features 4G Cat.40 network support, Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac HT80, MIMO (2X2)), Bluetooth v4.0 (with BLE and ANT+), NFC and IR remote.
Samsung said that the Galaxy S5 would be made available globally (up to 150 countries) from 11 April, but price detail of the phone is still under wraps.
