Following Bharatiya Janata Party's criticism on the Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid's promise to provide 9 per cent sub quota within the existing 27 percent OBC quota to Muslims, the Congress party has distanced itself from the tall promise.
Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi told journalists that the Union Law Minister's promise of providing 9 per cent sub quota to Muslims at an election rally might be his own view.
Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley had earlier slammed the Congress party over the promise of the law minister, terming it as a 'divisive agenda of the Congress to divide the society. He said that such divisive agenda of the Congress adversely affect the society.
It may be recalled that the Election Commission had earlier issued show-cause notice to Khurshid and his wife Louise, who is a Congress candidate, for violating the model code of conduct, to which the minister had pleaded not guilty of the charge.
