After makers of Shah Rukh Khan's epic film "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (1995) released a new trailer to celebrate 1000 weeks of its successful run at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir, one of Salman Khan's iconic films isn't far behind.
Makers of Salman's 1989 superhit "Maine Pyar Kiya" (MPK) are planning to re-release the film next year to mark its 25th anniversary. If everything goes as planned, the film will hit theatres in December 2015 with better and clearer print.
"December 2015 will mark the 25th anniversary of the movie's release. And to celebrate the occasion in a grand way, the makers have been contemplating releasing it again. They will bring out a clearer print of the film, which, in all likelihood, should release in December next year," an industry insider told Hindustan Times.
However, there is more to the makers' re-release plans. "In addition to releasing the film, they will also sell merchandise related to it. The film was a big hit when it first released and is a cult favourite, and the makers are hoping that fans will lap up the goodies," the insider added.
Director Sooraj Barjatya debuted with "Maine Pyar Kiya", which turned out to be a superhit. The romantic drama featured Salman and Bhagyashree in lead roles and was the "Kick" star's debut film as a lead actor. He had earlier acted in a supporting role in "Biwi Ho To Aisi" (1988).
The news has evidently brought a cheer among fans and it would surely be a treat to watch the then budding star in a 70mm screen.
Currently, Barjatya is working with Salman on "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" (PRDP) that has Sonam Kapoor as female lead. "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" is a family drama and is apparently different from its predecessors.
Meanwhile, "MPK" re-release plan is still in the initial stages and the makers will work on it only after wrapping up the ongoing project and its post-production work. "PRDP" is expected to release worldwide on 1 November next year.
Apart from "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo", Salman is also busy shooting for Kabir Khan's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" that has Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead.
