Salman Khan's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan," which was released in India almost a year ago, is now ruling the Hong Kong box office. The film completed a 10-day theatrical run at the box office in Hong Kong and has already emerged as a smash hit.
"Bajrangi Bhaijaan," starring Salman, Harshaali Malhotra, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, became a blockbuster hit at the worldwide box office when released last year. The film grossed more than Rs. 486.31 crore at the worldwide box office in more than four weeks of the theatrical run.
And now the film is smashing records at the Hong Kong box office. In 10 days, the film minted Rs. 56.75 lakh, which is a good figure for a Bollywood movie.
"#BajrangiBhaijaan is a SMASH HIT in Hong Kong... Week 2: Fri HK$ 51,310, Sat HK$ 102,914, Sun HK$ 85,514. Total: HK$ 658,431 [₹ 56.75 lacs]," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
In October last year, the film was released in Salman's rumoured girlfriend Iulia Vantur's country Romania. However, the film underperformed at the Romania box office. The Kabir Khan directorial was released in just 12 screens, from which it made a box office collection of $3,733 (Rs. 2.44 lakh) in its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
But apart from Romania, the film had a phenomenal box office run worldwide. The Salman-starrer became the biggest grosser of 2015 with nett domestic earnings of Rs. 320.34 crore. "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" became Salman and Kareena's first film to enter in the Rs. 300 crore club, which only consisted of Aamir Khan's "PK." And at the overseas box office, "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" minted Rs. 165.96 crore.
