It is a well-known fact that Salman Khan is fond of South Indian films. After remaking a couple of Tamil and Telugu films, he is now reportedly eying to recreate a 2012 blockbuster Kannada movie.
Leading Kannada daily Kannada Prabha has reported that the "Veer" star is likely to appear in the remake of Kannada blockbuster "Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna". The movie will be made in multiple languages as it is a historical flick, based on freedom fighters Rayanna and Kittur Rani Chennama.
Though it is not clear as to who approached Salman Khan or who will direct the movie, it has been reported that the "Dabangg" star along with Jaya Prada - who had enacted the role of Queen Rani Chenamma in the original flick - will be doing the lead roles.
"Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna" narrates the story of the freedom fighter of the same name. Challenging Star Darshan had performed the role of Sangolli Rayanna and veteran actress Jaya Prada had played the role of Kittur Chenamma.
Rayanna was one of the first to use guerrilla warfare tactics in India. This was not highlighted in the original version. The Hindi version is likely to project it in a better way.
The story of the movie is set in the 18th century before the First War of Indian Independence. The small kingdom of Kittur fought bravely against the British establishment, but was finally defeated through treachery.
"Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna" was made with the budget of ₹22 crore, which is the highest for any Kannada movie till date. The film was directed by Rayanna and produced by Anand Appugol.
Apart from Darshan and Jaya Prada, Nikita Thukral, Shashi Kumar, Srinivasa Murthy, Avinash, Ramesh Bhat, Dodanna and others are in the cast. Its music was done by Yashovardhan and Harikrishna, while Ramesh Babu had handled the camera.
