Sunil Grover and Ali Asgar had received a legal notice for planning to perform in their "Comedy Nights With Kapil" avatars — Gutthi and Dadi, respectively — at "Da-Bang The Salman Khan Live in Concert". Now, Entex Global, the organisers of the event have issued a statement saying that the two comedians will not portray the characters of "CNWK".
Earlier, there were reports that Colors TV had sent a legal notice to Sunil and Ali, warning them that they cannot perform any show while depicting their popular characters of "Comedy Nights with Kapil" that used to be aired on Colors.
According to Koimoi, the statement by Entex Global CEO Amit Purohit said: "Considering the notice issued by Colors to Sunil, Ali and my company — Entex Global — we have learnt from Ali and Sunil that they are not going to use any IP related to Colors or any other channel. The show has them in Gujarati female avatars and the names are different. Hence, there is no resemblance of character or infringement of IPR. We look forward to host a great show and entertain thousands of fans."
An earlier report on Spotboye quoted a source saying: "Dadi can't perform even as a normal lady with grey hair and a jooda. Gutthi can't even don ribbons. This is the kind of diktat that the legal notice spells out. The duo has been clearly told that even a reflection of their 'CNWK' avatars would tantamount to copyright infringement. It's both sad and funny."
Kapil Sharma and his team had a clash with Colors TV after he had expressed discontent at content being repeated on "Comedy Nights with Kapil" and "Comedy Nights Bachao", both the shows being aired on the same channel. Eventually, Kapil and his team decided to wrap up their show and it was replaced by a new show titled "Comedy Nights Live".
"Da-Bang The Salman Khan Live in Concert" will be held on Feb. 19 in Surat and will witness performances by the likes of Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Chitrangada Singh, Elli Avram, Sunil Grover and Ali Asgar.
