Last year, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn had announced that he will be essaying the role of the great Maratha warrior Taanaji Malusare.
Taanaji was known for sacrificing his own life to recapture the Kondhana fort from the clutches of the Mughals in the historic Sinhgad battle in 1670.
The Singham actor had also tweeted his first poster look from the biopic "Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior", directed by Om Raut. Several reports have claimed that Saif Ali Khan has been chosen to play the antagonist Udaybhan Rathod in the upcoming magnum opus.
Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan have previously worked in films like Kachche Dhaage (1998), LOC Kargil (2003) and Omkara (2006). It will be a double treat for fans who could witness the two Bollywood actors coming together to give them a larger-than-life cinematic experience after 12 years.
The first look of Ajay Devgn as Taanaji was quite dramatic as he is seen dressed up as the Maratha commander shielding himself from a rain of fiery arrows on the battlefield. He can also be seen holding a sword in his other hand. Sharing the poster with his fans, Ajay Devgn wrote, "He fought for his People, his Soil & his King Chhatrapati Shivaji. The unsung warrior of glorious Indian history, Subedar Taanaji Malusare."
Earlier, it was reported that Ajay Devgn will launch the much-anticipated biopic with a 3D version and to achieve this, the actor will bring his own VFX company on board to showcase the movie on a larger canvas.
The movie is already at the pre-production level and the team will reportedly start shooting for Taanaji in mid-September this year. The release date of the film has not been decided yet as Ajay believes that it adds the pressure of completing the project in a specific time which leads to compromise. The movie is slated to release for next year.
The film is a presentation of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Ajay Devgn Film Productions and WaterGate Production in association with Dashami Studioz.
