Romantic thriller film, "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns" directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia has done a decent collection of ₹3.51 crore in India on the first day.
The film, which is a sequel to 2011 flick, "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster", started off with a dull note but picked up later in the day. The response was below the mark in the morning shows in key markets. The film registered occupancy of 20 percent at multiplexes.
"#SahebBiwiAurGangsterReturns picked up in evening/night shows on Friday. Collected ₹3.51 crore," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The drama film received good response as compared to last week's two releases. The first day collection of "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns" is equal to the total combined collection of last week's releases "I Me Aur Main" and "The Attacks Of 26/11".
The film made on a budget of ₹7 crore has already collected half of the amount on the opening day. The business is expected to grow further during the weekend since there is no major movie that is running except Abhishek Kapoor's "Kai Po Che!"
Positive reviews from critics and word of mouth may also help in increasing the business of the film.
The sequel is also expected to cross the total business of "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster" within just two days of its release. "Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster" overall collection was ₹7-8 crore approximately.
While Jimmy Shergill and Mahie Gill are reprising their roles, Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan are new additions to the cast. It also features Raj Babbar, Deepraj Rana and Parvesh Rana in supporting roles.
Actress Anjana Sukhani and Mugdha Godse are doing special appearance in the film.
