India did not perform well in the Rio Olympics, but PV SIndhu and Sakshi Malik gave the nation a reason to cheer, winning a medal each. They have been receiving gifts and cash rewards from governments, and the two athletes were also presented with BMW cars by Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Besides the two athletes, gymnast Dipa Karmakar and Sindhu's coach Pullela Gopichand were also awarded the same by the former India captain.
PV Sindhu won silver in badminton after losing to Carolina Marin in the women's singles final. She also became the first Indian woman to win silver in Olympics, and what makes this feat even more sweeter is her triumph over higher-ranked shuttlers to reach the gold medal match.
Likewise, Malik showed some strong character to win bronze for India, which was nation's first medal in Rio Olympics.
Both the athletes, as a result of their medal winning performances, have become heroes in India, and they received an amazing welcome in their respective state.
Hyderabad District Badminton Association president Chamundeshwarnath, who gifted the BMW cars to all the four mentioned persons, should be applauded for recognising the special feat of Dipa, who missed the bronze by a whisker in gymnastics. It would not be wrong to state that Dipa played an important role in placing India on the global map of gymnastics with her performance in Rio.
In a similar nice gesture, Chamundeshwarnath offered the luxury car to India badminton coach Gopichand, who has done extremely well to help in the growth of badminton. Even Sindhu has talked openly about Gopichand's role in helping her win the silver medal in Rio.
