Sachin: A Billion Dreams has had a good start at the box office with its collection grossing over Rs. 17 crore in just 2 days. The movie on Sachin Tendulkar continued the pace, and performed even better on Sunday.
Being a biographical movie, it was believed that Sachin: A Billion Dreams will not fare well at the box office. However, the film is having a impressive run at the commercial circuits with its 3 days domestic collection surpassing Rs. 20 crore.
Having released in 2400 screens across the country, the movie had collected Rs. 8.40 crore on its opening day at the domestic market. Witnessing an upward trend, Sachin: A Billion Dreams earned Rs. 9.20 crore on Saturday.
The movie on Sachin scored even more on Sunday. Sachin: A Billion Dreams collected Rs. 10.25 crore on its day 3, taking its nett Indian collection to over Rs. 27 crore by the end of its first weekend.
"#SachinABillionDreams Fri 8.40 cr, Sat 9.20 cr, Sun 10.25 cr. Total: ₹ 27.85 cr [all languages]. India biz. EXCELLENT for a docu-drama," tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Directed by James Erskine, the biopic does not feature any star but it is the strong word of mouth and the popularity of Sachin that has been attracting foot-falls in the theatres. The movie has also had positive reviews from the critics.
Moreover, with no major release on last Friday, Sachin: A Billion Dreams is having dominance at the box office. Only one note worthy film, Dobaara, which is a horror movie, will be released next week.
Starring Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem, Dobaara might affect box office collection of the biopic. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how Sachin: A Billion Dreams performs over the weekdays.
