Akshay Kumar is on cloud nine with the overwhelming collection of "Rustom" at the box office. However, the actor has another reason to celebrate as his latest movie has broken a record of Salman Khan's "Sultan" too.
"Rustom" witnessed superb business on its first Monday, making a collection of Rs. 17.81 crore at the Indian box office. The first Monday is considered to be a crucial day for any movie as that brings out a picture of the film's box office run over the entire coming week.
The 4th day collection of "Rustom" was even better than what it had collected on its opening day and first Saturday. The film's first two days collection were Rs. 14.11 crore and Rs. 16.43 crore respectively.
On the other side, Salman's "Sultan" had earned Rs. 15.54 crore on its first Monday. Thus, "Rustom" has beaten "Sultan" on their respective first Monday collection by Rs. 2.27 crore. Unlike "Sultan," "Rustom" had the advantage of having its first Monday as a holiday (Independence Day) and that resulted in the Akshay-starrer claiming such huge figures.
But Salman's movie was a solo release and "Rustom" has been facing competition from Hrithik Roshan's "Mohenjo Daro." Hence, "Rustom" claiming more box office collection on first Monday than blockbuster "Sultan" is a great achievement for the makers of the film.
Co-produced by Neeraj Pandey, the crime thriller has come up as Akshay's third consecutive hit in 2016. His last two movies "Airlift" and "Housefull 3" had brought out good moolah for the producers and "Rustom" is doing the same. Apart from Akshay, the film also features Ileana D'Cruz and Esha Gupta among others.
