Akshay Kumar's "Rustom," which has been enjoying a good run at the Indian box office since its opening day, witnessed a drop in its collection on its sixth day (Wednesday, Aug.16) but still managed to earn a decent sum. The film has broken the first week domestic box office collection record of Akshay's previous films, "Housefull 3" and "Airlift."
In five days of its release, the Tinu Suresh Desai-directed venture collected Rs.75.90 crore net at the Indian box office. The day-wise breakup of the box office collection is: Rs. 14.11 crore on Friday, Rs. 16.43 crore (Saturday), Rs.19.88 crore (Sunday), Rs.17.81 crore (Monday), and Rs.7.67 crore (Tuesday).
"Rustom" collected Rs.6.38 crore at the Indian box office on Wednesday, taking its total six-day domestic collection to Rs. 82.28 crore net. With this, "Rustom" surpassed the box office record of "Housefull 3," which did a business of Rs. 80.10 crore net in its first week.
It has overtaken the first week domestic box office collection record of "Housefull 3" in just six days. However, the Akshay, Ileana D'Cruz-starrer would take the whole of the week to cross the first-week Indian business record of "Airlift" (Rs.83.50 crore net), and is sure to achieve a new milestone on Thursday.
Despite having clashed with "Mohenjo Daro," "Rustom" excelled at the box office, leaving the Hrithik Roshan-starrer far behind. Had the film got a solo release, it would have managed to shatter a few more box office records. Considering that the Hrithik-starrer has lost the hype during the first week, "Rustom" is likely to see a decent growth in the second week as well. Also, it is unlikely to face any trouble in the upcoming weekend, since only a few low budget films are slated for release on Friday, Aug.19.
