Akshay Kumar's "Rustom" collected Rs. 6.94 crore on its second Sunday (day 10), taking its domestic box office collection to Rs. 108.02 crore nett.
In comparison to its opening day collection, "Rustom" dropped 50 percent drop on second Friday. The movie showed decent growth on Saturday and Sunday. The Akshay-starrer has collected Rs. 17.12 crore nett at the Indian box office in its second weekend.
Taran Adarsh tweeted: "#Rustom [Week 2] Fri 4.41 cr, Sat 5.77 cr, Sun 6.94 cr. Weekend 2: ₹ 17.12 cr. Total: ₹ 108.02 cr. India biz. SMASH HIT! #Rustom had a STRONG Weekend 2, witnessing day-wise growth... Performance on weekdays will give a fair idea of its lifetime biz..."
The action-thriller has beaten the lifetime collection of "Housefull 2," which made Rs. 106 crore at the Indian box office. Also, "Rustom" is just a little shy of the lifetime figures posted by "Housefull 3" — Rs. 109.14 crore.
This means, by Monday, "Rustom" is likely to outshine "Housefull 3" and possibly "Holiday - A Solidier Is Never Off Duty" by Tuesday, which made Rs. 112.45 crore at the domestic circuits.
Clearly, "Rustom" has become one of the biggest hits of Akshay's career. However, it may not be able to surpass the lifetime collections of "Airlift" and "Rowdy Rathore," which stand at Rs. 128.1 crore and Rs. 133.25 crore, respectively.
With "Happy Bhaag Jayegi" screens being increased courtesy positive word-of-mouth and Tiger Shroff's "A Flying Jatt" opening in theatres on Aug. 25, "Rustom" may just be able to add another Rs. 10-15 crore over the next few days, and finally stop its run at somewhere close to Rs. 125 crore at the domestic box office.
A brief about how "Rustom" performed over the last week.
"Rustom" opened well — Rs. 14.11 crore — despite facing stiff competition from Hrithik Roshan's "Mohenjo Daro." Akshay's film crushed the period-drama as it continued its spectacular run at the domestic as well as overseas box office through the last week.
In the opening weekend, "Rustom" collected Rs. 50.42 crore at the domestic box office; the figures dropped on Tuesday and Wednesday, but picked up on Thursday due to the Rakhi holiday. "Rustom" entered the coveted Rs. 100 crore club on its second Saturday (9th day), making it Akshay's fastest Rs. 100 crore movie.
