A Russian woman is in a critical condition after a man threw acid at her in Varanasi.
The 23-year-old woman reportedly suffered severe burn injuries on her face and shoulders in the acid attack.
The accused is said to be the son of the woman's landlord, according to ANI news agency.
The incident reportedly took place in Varanasi's Nand Nagar colony on Friday, according to Dainik Jagran.
The 23-year-old Russian woman had been staying as a paying guest in the house for the last few days. The attacker reportedly was angered after she told him that she planned to go back to Russia as her visa had expired, according to Hindustan Times.
He then threw acid at her as she was sleeping in the balcony of her room in the early hours of Friday.
