The global coronavirus caseload has topped 405.6 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.78 million and vaccinations to over 10.14 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.
In its latest update on Friday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 405,688,274 and 5,788,456, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 10,143,832,034.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 77,437,114 and 915,349, according to the CSSE.
The second worst hit country in terms of cases is India (42,478,060 infections and 506,520 deaths), followed by Brazil (27,135,550 infections and 636,338 deaths).
Russia reports 197K daily cases
Russia has confirmed 197,076 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the highest daily increase to date, taking the nationwide tally to 13,527,845, the official monitoring and response center said on Thursday.
The nationwide death toll increased by 701 to 338,091, while the number of recoveries increased by 106,092 to 10,909,397. Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia's worst-hit region, reported 22,747 new cases, taking its total to 2,558,503, Xinhua news agency reported.
Other countries
The other countries with over 5 million Covid cases are France (21,511,410), the UK (18,285,929), Russia (13,323,972), Turkey (12,653,276), Italy (11,923,631), Germany (11,897,014), Spain (10,555,196), Argentina (8,675,327), Iran (6,696,927), Colombia (5,994,301), the Netherlands (5,524,764), Poland (5,258,785) and Mexico (5,167,110), the CSSE figures showed.
The nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Russia (331,300), Mexico (309,884), Peru (207,312), the UK (159,709), Italy (150,221), Indonesia (144,719), Colombia (136,404), France (135,262), Iran (133,164), Argentina (123,444), Germany (119,506), Ukraine (108,668) and Poland (107,204).
