Thousands of soldiers took part in a march through Moscows Red Square on Saturday (7 November) in a ceremony re-enacting a 1941 historic military parade.
Wearing traditional Soviet uniforms, over 5,000 soldiers marched across the square, to mark the 74th anniversary of the 7 November parade of 1941. Back then, a 15-minute parade was held in the besieged Soviet capital to mark the 24th anniversary of the October Revolution.
Twenty-one veterans of the original parade also took part in the commemoration, which featured a total of 55 World War Two military hardware. Military vehicles will be on display on Red Square throughout the day.
The 1941 event served to demonstrate the Russian armys resilience to German forces, as the troops that paraded past the Kremlin then headed directly to the front line.
