Both BSE Sensex and Nifty opened and closed higher on Monday. Sensex closed 73.61 points or 0.29 percent higher at 25715.17 points, while Nifty ended 20.30 points or 0.26 percent higher at 7684.20 points.
The benchmark Sensex opened 134.98 points higher at 25776.54 points and the broader Nifty opened 37.75 points higher at 7701.65 points.
On the other hand, Indian Rupee ended unchanged at 60.30 per dollar.
"There is a strong foothold for the INR at 60 levels. There are no domestic triggers which can push the rupee sharply higher or lower from here. Market is now keen to see how the government delivers on its budget estimates," Reuters quoted Naveen Mathur, associate director, commodities and currencies at Angel Broking.
Indian shares surged for a fifth consecutive session as Reliance Industries Limited dominated the stock index after its announcement of quarterly earnings which breached the estimates. Meanwhile, the purchase of 15 percent stake in MCX by Kotak Mahindra also held the eyes of many investors.
Stock price of Reliance Industries Limited ended higher by Rs.20.65 or 2.11 percent at Rs.997.35 per stock, while Kotak Mahindra's stock price ended at Rs.941.20 per stock. The share price recorded Rs.5.35 or 0.57 percent higher at closing time.
Meanwhile, the stock price of Multi Commodity Exchange of India closed Rs.61.90 higher at Rs.848.40 per stock.

On the other hand, top gainers from NSE were Hi-Tech Gears, Hercules Hoists, Kopran Ltd, Pondy Oxides and Chemicals and Atlas Cycles Harayana Limited, whereas top losers were REI Six Ten Retail, Blue Chip India, Raj Rayon industries, Nakoda Limited and ATN International Limited.
Among the 12 Indian stock indices, stock prices of five sectors ended lower. Those were BSE IT, Metals, Capital Goods, Realty and Power.
Among the 30 companies listed in Sensex, stock prices of 15 companies plunged. However, blue chips stocks dominated the index due to heavy inflows. While among the 50 listed companies in Nifty, around 50 percent of its stocks plunged.
