An America teenager has solved a Rubiks cube in a world record time. Lucas Etter, 14, was taking part in the River Hill Fall competition in Clarksville, Maryland, when he completed the cube in just 4.9 seconds.
Competitors get 15 seconds to inspect the cube before attempting to solve it as fast as possible. According to Fivethirtyeight, the world record had actually already been beaten by Keaton Ellis earlier that day, when he solved the puzzle in 5.09 seconds.
But that time was later beaten by Lucas by a tenth of a second with 4.904. Before the River Hill Fall competition, the world record was held by Collin Burns, who set a time of 5.25 seconds in the Doylestown spring competition in April.
The world Rubiks cube championship takes place every two years. The first ever world record was set by Minh Thai in 1982, at 22.95 seconds.
