An RTI query filed by Urvashi Sharma seeking details on parliament attack convict Afzal Guru met with dead end as officials of Tihar jail refused to provide any detail.
The Tihar jail officials told IANS that Sharma's RTI would "pre-judicially affect the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security, strategic, scientific or economic interests of the state, relation with foreign state or lead to incitement of an offence."
Sharma had sought Right to Information on Guru's 'black warrant' copy, the home affair ministry's communication document of the decision following mercy petition, Guru's total expenses in jail and letters and documents regarding the process of Guru's burial taking into account list of people present during the execution and photographs.
But, the RTI activist was shocked to find a terse response from the prison headquarters quoting sections which could endanger the India's relations with foreign countries.
A positive reply to the RTI could reveal several 'conspiracy theories' and "human rights queries would have been satiated," believed Sharma.
"There has been several protests regarding the secretive circumstances Afzal Guru was hanged in and the quiet burial...(the) prison department of Tihar Jail and the union government must come clean on this matter," Sharma, who is exploring other means of filing review petition, told IANS.
Afzal Guru convicted of plotting the December 2001 terror attack on Parliament was hanged on February 9 at Tihar Jail after President Pranab Mukherjee rejected his mercy petition.
