Perhaps the success of "Game of Thrones" lies in the varied emotions it evokes in us. Admittedly, watching an episode of the fantasy series is never a casual, happy moment in one's life. There are deaths to mourn about; violence that shocks us and magic that quite frankly, surprises us. As the year ends and a new year is yet to begin, let's take a look at some of the best scenes of "Game of Thrones" season 5. After all, it is always nostalgic to see favourite characters display their craft, and as the end of 2015 is upon us let's remember it for a show that seems to be on everyone's must watch list.
When Drogon saves Daenerys Targaryen
Few expected to see the Khaleesi's dragon in Mereen. Especially since her other two dragons snarled and resented her for chaining them in the bowels of her castle. Fans of the show wondered if the dragons bore any loyalty towards Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) but Drogon proved them wrong. Atta Boy! It took a near death experience for Drogon to return to Dany, but he did. But the people of Mereen were unhappy.
Jon Snow gets stabbed
This is perhaps one of the pivotal moments of "Game of Thrones" season 5 plot. It is fitting that it is the last scene of the season. It came as no surprise when speculations about Jon Snow's death and return pervaded the internet. But Kit Harrington's life changed dramatically after the end of season 5, when everyone obsessed over the length of his hair.
Cersei's walk of shame
This scene makes one almost sympathise with Queen Cersei (Lena Headey). Cersei's walk of shame in King's Landing symbolises the danger posed by extremist religious ideologies. The Queen Regent is one of the least favoured characters on the show, but her humiliation did not fit her crime.
Arya loses her vision
Many didn't think it could be possible for the brave Arya Strak (Maisie Williams) to lose her eyesight. In season 5 episode 10, the youngest daughter of the Starks gets punished for disobeying orders and killing Meryn Trant. In order to lose her ego, she has to lose her eyesight, but we predict that she will become mentally stronger in season 6, and could become a waif.
Battle for Hardhome
This is one of the best episodes of "Game of Thrones" season 5. Who knew that the "Game of Thrones" universe was filled with so many white walkers? The episode titled "Hardhome" depicted the power of the white walkers and was the first hint at the crucial role Jon Snow will play in the series. We feel we haven't heard the last of the Night's King.
Stannis kills his daughter Shereen
Perhaps, it is lust for power that's Stannis' main enemy. The eldest of the Baratheons travels to Castle Black to protect the Night's Watch against wildlings. However, Stannis's plan to sit on the Iron Throne gets derailed and he is forced to make another sacrifice: his daughter. Watching his young daughter burn was a disturbing sight, not to mention, heartbreaking.
