Micromax's online-only sub-brand, YU Televentures launched its latest budget smartphone, the Yunique, in India last week. The smartphone is set to go on sale on 15 September.
The first flash sale will be held exclusively on Snapdeal for registered buyers. Like in any flash sale, the Yunique will be available on first-come first-served basis. The registration window closes on Monday night and those failing to sign up for the sale will have to wait for another week when the handset becomes available again.
The Yunique smartphone made quite an entry into the Indian budget smartphone market with its impressive features and striking specifications. The handset is touted as the most affordable 4G LTE smartphone with HD screen. Strikingly similar to YU's own Yuphoria, the Yunique serves as an entry-level handset to attract the young geeky crowd.
After getting hands-on with the device, we found the Yunique quite appealing. The handset is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, Adreno 306 GPU for graphics, 1GB RAM and 8GB expandable memory up to 32GB. It features a 4.7-inch HD display with 1280 x 720 pixels and 312ppi, which is quite impressive given the low price tag.
The Yunique smartphone is 4G LTE ready and has dual SIM slots to run two networks simultaneously. It has an 8MP rear-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and an LED flash. To take care of your selfies, there's a good 2MP snapper.
YU partly made its name in the market by powering its handsets with Cyanogen, but the Yunique smartphone runs on stock Android 5.1 Lollipop. If you are hung up on the CM OS, it is possible to get Cyanogen 12.1 OS ROM through FOTA download.
On Tuesday (15 September), the Yunique will be available in black hue for Rs. 4,999. Buyers can also choose to add two back covers for an additional Rs. 500. If you are seriously considering buying the handset, it is important you register your interest before 8pm on Monday (14 September) to participate in the sale on 15 September.
