Arjun Rampal, Ranbir Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer "Roy" has shattered the opening day box office collection of Akshay Kumar's "Baby" to make a place for itself at the top spot.
The first day box office collection of "Roy" is biggest of 2015. The first day domestic business of the film stands at ₹10.40 crore.
"#Roy Fri ₹ 10.40 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Previously, Akshay's "Baby" held the record of "Biggest Opener of 2015" with ₹9.3 crore. But "Roy" has easily pushed past the records of "Baby".
"Roy" is a romantic thriller directed by Vikramjit Singh. The film has been released in approximately 2500 screens, which is same as "Baby".
The romantic thriller had registered occupancy of more than 50% on day one. But since it was targeted at multiplex audience, it fared better at multiplexes compared to single screens.
The film is now expected to have a good Saturday due to Valentine's Day, but Sunday the business might witness a fall considering the World Cup India vs Pakistan Match.
Meanwhile, the lead actor Arjun thanked everyone for making "Roy" the biggest opener of 2015.
"Happy Valentine's Day to all. Love you all and spread love. Thank you Roy is the biggest opener of 2015. Super happy. #rocknroy," he tweeted.
The film has opened well in international market as well, especially the UAE-GCC region.
