It seems that year 2012 is a lucky year for Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar. The actor has again proved with his latest movie "Rowdy Rathore" that action roles suit best for him.
Prabhu Deva directed movie "Rowdy Rathore" which entered its fourth week is still going strong at the box office. The movie is continuing with good collections and is still attracting audiences by dozens and now it has been named as one of the top five Bollywood films of all times.
"Rowdy Rathore has now comfortably surpassed 120 crores in its third weekend itself, leaving behind the Ra.One with 115 crore, Agneepath with 120 crores and for that matter even Salman Khan's Ready with 121 crores," a trade source confirms.
Earlier, Taran Adarsh, a popular trade analyst and well-known film critic, tweeted: "#RowdyRathorebreakup for Week 2:- Weekend: 22 cr, Weekdays: 13 cr. Total so far: Rs 114.5 cr nett. Blockbuster."
"#RowdyRathore is unstoppable. Remains first choice of moviegoers. Collected a humungous Rs 35 cr nett in Week 2. Total: Rs 114.5 cr nett," he wrote.
However, Salman's Dabangg and Bodyguard, which has crossed 140 crores each, continue to be a challenge for Akshay's new action film.
"It would be quite difficult to cross that milestone though since in coming weeks, Akshay faces challenge from Shahid Kapoor (Teri Meri Kahaani) and The Amazing Spiderman which arrive back to back," Hindustan Times reported quoting an insider.
"However Rowdy Rathore would now come close to the 135 crore mark, which is a huge achievement considering the fact that Akshay was facing rough weather during last year. Now with both Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore doing so well and Akshay finding a very strong positioning for him (with Aamir Khan ruling from the top, courtesy 3 Idiots at 202 crores), things have heated up all over again," the insider added.
However, after the third weekend box office collections Adarsh tweeted: "#RowdyRathore is extraordinary. Seems undeterred by onslaught of new films. Collects 9.65 cr in Wknd 3, taking total to 124.15 cr nett(sic)."
"Rowdy Rathore" is said to be Akshay's first solo biggest opening ever.
