Mumbai police arrested popular television actor Ronit Roy on Thursday morning. Roy has been detained in connection with a hit-and-run case that took place sometime between late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
The accident left three people injured, two of whom are said to be in critical condition. The incident took place in the Amboli area of suburban Mumbai, when Roy was returning from a Diwali party.
It is believed that Roy's Mercedes hit another car, injuring its occupants; one of whom was a 56-year-old woman. The injured were admitted to Cooper Hospital.
Police officials have detained Roy for rash and negligent driving.
While some sources said the actor was not drunk when the accident took place, the police are waiting for the medical report before commenting on the possibility that Roy was driving when he was drunk.
Ronit Roy has acted in television serials like "Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi", "Bandini" and "Adaalat". He also bagged a few awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor, for his role in the film "Udaan".
