Rohit Sharma has come out in appreciation of a gesture by England captain, Joe Root as the latter wrote a message in gratitude to the travelling England fans who were displaced due to security concerns ahead of their Test Match against Sri Lanka in Kandy.
It was learnt last month that the hotel – Earl Regency – near the Pallekele Stadium where the two teams were supposed to stay during the Test match was not secured by Sri Lanka Cricket and instead been fully sold to tour groups attending the game.
Acting on this faux pas, Sri Lankan sports ministerMusthapha intervened to make sure the players stayed at their preferred hotel. This caused approximately 100 travelling fans to be displaced to a distant location at the eleventh hour causing a major disruption in their schedule and travel plans.
Learning about this chain of events, England captain Joe Root took it upon himself to compensate the bereaved fans.
The 27-year-old signed individual letters to various England fans thanking them and promising them a memorable performance.
This gesture of Root managed to touch Rohit Sharma and the latter took to social media to let the world know of his appreciation.
