The world of cricket and entertainment united once again when Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma announced they had tied the knot. Having dated for a few years now, the couple secretly got married in Tuscany, Italy, earlier this week.
However, not every cricket-Bollywood couple has been as lucky as Virushka. While there are examples like Zaheer Khan and Sagarika Ghatge, Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech, and Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra who ended up hitched, there are more Bolly-cricket couples who did not go past the headlines.
The list of cricketers who dated Bollywood actresses but did not end up marrying them includes Isha Sharvani and Zaheer Khan. Starting from 2005, the duo had an on-and-off relationship for over eight years before calling it quits in 2013. It was rumoured that the couple was planning on getting married.
Yuvraj Singh and Kim Sharma fall in the list as well. The Punjabi munda was smitten by the actress and they made headlines for over four years, often being spotted at parties and evenings hand in hand.
However, it is said that Yuvraj's mother did not approve of the relationship and the two parted ways. The Quint reported that this was the longest relationship Yuvraj was in, before marrying Hazel.
Giving Yuvraj some company on the list is his friend and former Indian team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, with his crush for Deepika Padukone. The captain cool had fallen head over heels for the Padmavati actress, and asked a friend to introduce the two.
Things went from introduction to watching the actress cheering the sportsman at matches, but things did not go beyond that. Padukone and Yuvraj subsequently made headlines for their romance.
Dhoni was also in the headlines for his relationship with South Indian actress Raai Laxmi. The two dated when Laxmi was the ambassador of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League but their relationship lasted less than a year.
Rohit Sharma, who has become one of the torchbearers of the current Indian cricket team, once dated Sofia Hayat. The actress took to Twitter to announce that she did date the cricketer back in 2012 but it is over now. She did not share the reason behind the breakup.
While these are examples of crickets still part of the Indian team, there are a few from the past who have also been heartbroken after their affair with the cinematic ladies did not reach the mandap. These include Sourav Ganguly and Nagma, Sarika and Kapil Dev, and Ravi Shastri and Amrita Singh.
