Rogers Cup heads into day five on Tuesday as round one continues and round two commences in Montreal, Canada.
The tournament has the likes of Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams, Petra Kvitova, Caroline Wozniacki and Eugenie Bouchard competing.
Venus, Wozniacki and Bouchard are the big names featuring on Tuesday. A good showing in the tournament will hold these players in good stead for the last Grand Slam of the year - the US Open, which begins on 25 August.
The first round encounter between Venus and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova kicks off the action for the ladies. Venus is way ahead in terms of experience and has many more title wins under her belt. She, however, comes into the tournament on the back of a loss to Andrea Petkovic. So one can expect a tightly fought contest here as there is not a lot to choose between the two players now.
Fans will be delighted to see Wozniacki in action as she takes on Daniela Hantuchova. The Dane is the firm favourite heading into the match. In the seven previous meetings, Wozniacki has triumphed no less than six times. In 2010, she had won the Rogers Cup. Hantuchova has not been in the best of forms. The Slovak would be hoping for a surprise second victory against Wozniacki.
Bouchard will hope to provide Canadian fans a reason to cheer for as she faces Shelby Rogers. She is undoubtedly the star attraction of the tournament. Bouchard, after reaching the Wimbledon final this year, appeared confident and excited about playing at home.
"I'm just really excited. It's going to be my first match since Wimbledon. I'm not going to be to hard on myself. But I'm going to give it my all and enjoy playing in front of my home crowd," CBC Sports quoted Bouchard.
Rogers, the American, would be confident as well after her first round victory over Ajla Tomljanovic on Monday. Playing against the home favourite would be a test of nerves for her.
The first round will also see 16th seed Petkovic of Germany go up against Italian Camila Giorgi. The 18th-ranked Petkovic would be hoping for a good show against the 38th-ranked Girogi. A tight game is on the cards.
Ana Ivanovic of Serbia , the number 9 seed here, will play Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland in the first round. Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain will fight it out against Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia.
