George Roger Waters, well, does this name really need any introduction? Whatever we say about this iconic musician, who celebrates his 72nd birthday on 6 September, 2015 (Sunday), is just too less. He is undoubtedly, the most-loved English musicians--songwriter, vocalist, bassist and frontman of Pink Floyd--the most popular rock band of the era.
Waters, best known for composing songs for albums, including "The Dark Side of the Moon", "Wish You Were Here", "Animals" and "The Wall", quit the band to pursue a solo career in 1985. But that did not stop him from making good music or connecting with his fans.
He hit the roads with his Dark Side Of The Moon World Tour, which ran from 2006-2008, followed by The Wall Live World Tour from 2010-2013. Not just this, the bassist has also directed a documentary--"Roger Waters: The Wall"--along with Sean Evans, which is a concert film about Waters' live tour.
One of the best songwriters, as he is known, it is only fair to celebrate Roger Waters' birthday with some of his best inspirational quotes:
"I'm in competition with myself and I'm losing.
"Not the torturer will scare me, nor the body's final fall, nor the barrels of death's rifles, nor the shadows on the wall, nor the night when to the ground the last dim star of pain, is hurled but the blind indifference of a merciless, unfeeling world.
"I always used to look at books and wonder how anybody could come up with so many words. But my divorce and then falling in love with somebody else has released in me an ability to write in other ways apart from songs.
"I could have been an architect, but I don't think I'd have been very happy. Nearly all modern architecture is a silly game as far as I can see.
"Who is the strongest, who is the best, who holds the aces, the East or the West. This is the crap our children are learning.
"All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be.
"There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark.
"Long you live and high you fly. And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry. And all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be.
"I think there are things in my story that have helped my creativity. Your father being killed, for instance, is one of the best things that could happen to a kid if he's going to write poetry or songs.
"Everybody's got somewhere they call home.
"Envy is the bond between the hopeful and the damned.
"I would not rule out going to Israel because I disapprove of the foreign policy any more than I would refuse to play in the UK because I disapprove of Tony Blair's foreign policy.
"I was faced with a choice: to deny my addiction and embrace that 'comfortably numb' but 'magicless' existence, or accept the burden of insight, take the road less travelled, and embark on the often painful journey to discover who I was and where I fit.
"Ashes or diamonds foe or friend we're all equal in the end.
"But that's not to say that the potential for the sun to shine doesn't exist. You know? Walk down the path towards the light, rather than walk into the darkness.
